FIBER OWL 4 FIRMWARE UPGRADE

The firmware for Fiber OWL 4 optical power meters can be upgraded FREE OF CHARGE by downloading the "FLASH" file listed below.

PLEASE READ ANY SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE UPDATING THE FIRMWARE IN YOUR FIBER OWL 4.

FIBER OWL 4 SERIES OPTICAL POWER METERS (valid for firmware versions 4.10 and later)

*** UPDATING TO FIRMWARE VERSION 4.64 IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ***

Firmware version 4.64 adds improved functionality to the Link Wizard, which makes setting a dual-wavelength certification reference more intuitive and user-friendly.

This update also includes a correction to an issue in version 4.55, 4.56, and 4.57 where readings may be incorrectly displayed as PASS when they may be a FAIL, in some application standards such as Ethernet and FTTH.

It should be noted that stored data is accurate and correctly displayed in OWL Reporter after downloading to the PC.

Other improvements include:

	Link certification support for 10-Gigabit Ethernet networks
	Improved functionality of the manual reference link budget method
	Improved dual-wavelength measurement display

OWL REPORTER DOWNLOAD SOFTWARE: The latest version of OWL Reporter (version 2.9.1 or later) is required to take advantage of the improved functionality of manual reference link budgets. Click here to download, or click here to visit the OWL Reporter download page.

NOTE: using this "FLASH" file for Fiber OWL 4 firmware versions released prior to 4.10 will result in the meter losing its serial number and user settings. Meters before 4.10 will need to be sent to OWL for updating. Contact OWL at 262-473-0643 for more information.

NOTE: starting with firmware version 4.41, the bottom row of keys on Fiber OWL 4 series optical power meters have been re-mapped. If upgrading from version 4.40 or earlier, a new keypad will be required. For instructions on the new keypad mapping, please download the latest Fiber OWL operations guide.
